Benefits and incentives
Employers can offer traditional benefits such as Health Insurance and Pension Plans or ‘fringe’ benefits, which refers to any compensation or other employee benefit that is not in the form of cash. Some employee benefits may be excluded from the employee’s gross income and therefore not subject to income tax. Other employee benefits are taxable to the employee. When decidng what benefits and incentives to offer, employers should keep in mind that employee benefits are excludable from income only if specified by the tax code.
