Education Solutions > First LEGO League (FLL)
Science, technology, engineering and mathematics come alive for the students of Northern Kentucky as a supporting partner of the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics Qualifying Tournament. The Chamber is pleased to work with iSPACE as the lead organization for the 2009 tournament

The tournament is Sat., Jan. 3, 2009, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Twenhofel Middle School in Independence, KY and will feature teams from the following schools in Northern Kentucky:  Taylor Mill Elementary, Grant’s Lick Elementary, Reiley Elementary, Cline Elementary, Campbell County Middle, Summit View Middle, Gray Middle, Twenhofel Middle, Piner Elementary, Walton-Verona Middle, Fort Wright Elementary, Burlington Elementary and Woodland Middle.

This year’s theme is Climate Connections where students will learn the difference between weather and climate. The event will help them understand the importance of tracking weather around the world to plan, predict and make decisions on activities that impact our economy, food and water availability, tourism, disease control and other environmental issues. The theme is presented in a very apolitical manner and is intended to make students aware of climate where they live as well as in other places.

“Northern Kentucky FLL, now in its fifth year, continues to be a great way to spark interest in science, technology, engineering and math among students, while engaging them in a competitive but fun event that promotes teamwork, communication and collaboration,” explained Amanda Dixon, manager, education solutions. “However, much of our success comes from dedicated volunteers.”

Currently, applications are being accepted for volunteers who are trained, provided meals and receive a-shirt. Learn more about FLL or contact Amanda Dixon for volunteer opportunities.
